Mason Earle's battle with Cobra Crack, SquamishVideo

© Eddie Bauer

Cobra Crack in Squamish is infamous within knarly crack climbing circles. It's hosted a number of battles over the years, but Mason Earle's is perhaps the only war. This film focuses on Mason's eight years of attrition, and captures his changing motivations over time - from simply wanting to beat Alex Honnold to an ascent, to eventually wanting to climb the route for himself.

The route was first climbed in 2006 by Sonnie Trotter, who was trying the route alongside Didier Berthod. Sonnie gave the route 5.14- (roughly 8b+), making it one of the hardest cracks in the world.

For once a yank film that doesn't make me cringe. Good fliiping effort for sticking it out. I wonder whether he changed shoe brand because of the foot slip in 2011 ?
