I am really excited and proud to be able to organise the Big Mountain Weekend on behalf of Arc'teryx. It is a weekend to kick off the Lakeland Revival and is based around a weekend of clinics that allows people to experience their first ever rock climb or grow and develop their trad skills. This year we have added the Langdale Challenge which is free to get involved in, so there is really something for everyone.

The Langdale Challenge

With the expertise of local Langdale gurus we have put together a selection of hidden classics and challenges in the Langdale valley. Come along and try just one of the routes or a whole mountain link up. Every person that participates over the weekend will receive a FREE Lakeland Revival special edition DMM Phantom wire gate carabiner. Then why not join us for the BBQ, FREE live music and FREE film evening?

Participants can either climb a single route from the card or if you are feeling adventurous try a whole mountain link up. There will be cards available with enchainment ideas. Everyone who takes part will receive a FREE Lakeland Revival special edition DMM Phantom wire gate carabiner. Make sure you hand your route card back in after because if that isn't enough we will also be randomly selecting cards to win Arc'teryx and DMM prizes over the weekend.

Evenings Entertainment

Irrespective of whether you climb a route or not there will be free live music from Scrogans Run, a Lake based duo consisting of Wayne Svurrah and Paddy Rogan. Combining thumping guitar, vocal harmonies and some hot hot banjo picking, they play up tempo and original folk/bluegrass. They will be joined on double bass by friend and collaborator Beak Davison for the evening session.

Whilst there isn't a cost you'll need to sign-up, so click here to book your space.

UKC Filming

Throughout the weekend UKClimbing will be filming a series of short films containing top tips for new trad climbers, which will be published on our new and improved Skills Page in the weeks that follow.

Good weekend to avoid Langadale ....

It’s a bank holiday in the Lakes, this event is the least of your worries...

I live in the Lakes and events like this are a pain in the arse :)

I still stick to my original sentiment, it's a drop in the ocean compared to the thousands - wait, tens of thousands - of tourists you're likely to get out on the fells this weekend, but hey - you're entitled to grumble.

See you at the free evening events and barbecue maybe?

Only joking...

Well, I was heading to Gimmer this weekend with my girlfriend but reckon it will be too busy, so probably not...but you never know the free band might tempt her, and she is entertainment's manager...in fact, general manager :)
