19-year-old Italian climber Laura Rogora has redpointed her first 9a+ by making the first repeat of Adam Ondra's Pure Dreaming Plus 9a+ at Massone near Arco, Italy. Rogora is only the fifth woman in the world to have climbed the grade.
PURE DREAMING PLUS went down faster than I expected and yesterday I could clip the chain of my first 9a+!! 💪😍😊 📸 @steghiso . . #climbing_pictures_of_instagram #picoftheday #loveclimbing #climbforlife #escalade #escalada #grimper #klettern #montura #wildclimb #campcassin #italy #rome #bomber #instagood #instalike #instagram @climbskinspain @agripp_climbingholds @montura_official @wildclimb @fiammeoromoena @dao_sport
Three days earlier, Rogora ticked Pure Dreaming 9a, requiring just nine attempts. 'Guess it is time to dream bigger... ' she wrote on Instagram.
Pure Dreaming Plus takes in the initial bouldery section of Underground 9a and leads into Pure Dreaming, with its powerful, low-percentage crux move on the lip of a roof. Rogora anticipated having to spend more time working on the extension.
"PURE DREAMING PLUS went down faster than I expected and yesterday I could clip the chain of my first 9a+!!" she commented on Instagram.
Making Rogora's ascent all the more impressive is the fact that she was unable to train at an indoor facility during Italy's strict lockdown. Since quarantine eased, she has been making the most of time on rock.
Equally adept at climbing competitions, Rogora won gold in Boulder, lead and Combined in the 2019 World Youth Championships. Last year, Rogora also qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which are due to take place in July/August 2021. Earlier this year, she onsighted 8b+ at Montsant, Spain, with an ascent of L-mens.
Since climbing her first 8c aged 13, Rogora has also made multiple first ascents up to 9a at various Italian crags.
