A significant rockfall has taken place in Vivian Quarry, Llanberis, which has impacted several established slate routes. The area remains unstable and climbing is banned for the time being.

BMC Access and Conservation Officer Elfyn Jones commented in the UKC Forums:
'Padarn Country Park have informed the BMC that they have closed the whole site for the forseeable future and no access is currently allowed to any part or level of the Vivian Quarry for any purpose.'
Llanberis local Mark Reeves visited the site yesterday and told UKC:
'Over the years there has been a crevice at the top of the Nostromo (E4 6b) wall, and Nostromo in particular has been in the process of falling down for a few years. However, this latest rockfall has taken out that entire route, essentially calving off at what appeared to be the crack that Nostromo used to follow, leaving an arete and a massive new corner system. As a result Nostromo is no more. It looks like Menopausal Discharge (8a+) may have been affected, but we weren't getting too close to that for the time being.
'As you can see from the photos, the rockfall has taken out the 'Bad Step' to Comes the Dervish (E3 5c). The fallout zone of this gigantic rockfall also means that the routes between Psychotherapy (E2 5c) and Fat Lad Exam Failure (E6 6b) are also affected. We would advise you visit the BMC Regional Access Database to keep updated with the access situation. At the moment the whole of the bottom tiers of Vivian Quarry are closed, and access to the Dervish slab and Conscience slab beyond will not be possible for some time.'

Heck, that must have made a noise, did nobody hear it? Makes you think about the times you've happily wandered about underneath that lot.

At least the Dervish appears unscathed although getting to it maybe affected.
