Ephyra 8C+ by Yannick Flohé

Yannick Flohé has made the fifth ascent of Jimmy Webb's Ephyra (f8C+) in Chironico, Switzerland.

The ascent, which was swiftly followed by an ascent of From Dirt Grows The Flowers (f8C) on the very same day, marks the continuation of an extended period of excellent bouldering form for Flohé. In 2022, he climbed his first 8C+ boulder, in Off the Wagon SDS (V16), whilst also climbing Forgotten Gem 8C, Everything the Light Touches 8C, The Kingdom (f8B+), and L'Alchemiste 8B+.

Sharing the news of the ascents on instagram, Flohé said:

'During my last trip I spent a few days on this block trying both lines. I got pretty close on Ephyra but couldn't finish it. From Dirt Grows The Flowers I didn't even consider as a project because the mantle was so hard for me that I never tried from the start'.

'Yesterday I came back with prime conditions and good skin. I warmed up trying the mantle of From Dirt Grows The Flowers, which felt surprisingly good, and after a couple of tries I climbed my main project Ephyra. I still had some power left so I worked out the beginning of From Dirt Grows The Flowers again, and after falling two times at the very end somehow my foot didn't slip and I found myself on top of this block. What a day'.

With Flohé having made these two ascents on the very first day of his Swiss trip, and with the abundance of top-end boulders in and around Chironico, it may not be long before he adds yet another hard boulder to the list.
