Petzl's latest designs reflect over 30 years of helmet development and innovation including the iconic ECRIN ROC, METEOR and the original ultra-lightweight SIROCCO. Comfortable, simple to adjust and lightweight, Petzl helmets play an essential role as safety equipment for vertical activities.

The re-designed SIROCCO has been developed to respond to the needs of climbers and mountaineers for reduced weight and for increased protection. Its new head-covering shape, lower in the rear, offers reinforced protection. Optimized volume on the head, along with excellent ventilation, provide maximum comfort.

Description

  • Ultra-light design:
    - only 170 g
    - hybrid construction with a shell in EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam and rigid crown injected with EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam
  • Head-covering design in two sizes for optimal protection against lateral and rear impact
  • Maximum comfort in action:
    - wide holes, for excellent ventilation
    - completely adjustable, thanks to the adjustable headband and chinstrap
    - magnetic buckle facilitates fastening the chinstrap (Petzl patent)
    - compatible with the VIZION eye shield
    - two hooks and rear elastic for attaching a headlamp

Great stuff , just a quick thought though . How about if your head is 63 cm ?

This redesign is a load of rubbish. Most of the main features that made the original so good have been phased out. If my current Scirroco had a PC crown I would have totalled it in weeks, it's the spot that has received the most abuse and still looks brand new. The whole helmet was flexible and one piece which made it absorb impact so well. Can anyone enlighten me on the benefits of doing this?

I've written a review of the SIROCCO which will be published soon. It should give you an idea of how I found the helmet after using it for the last 8 weeks. Unfortunately I didn't drop anything on my head to test the absorbency.

Look forward to reading it :) But surely the only way to review something like a helmet is to first and foremost test it's primary function? (proxy heads are allowed).
