Brit boulderers put in strong performance at Birmingham

© Alex Messenger
Last weekend's The Outdoors Show at the NEC saw the first round of the Bouldering world cup. The British men put in a strong performance, with four making it into the final. Former, British bouldering champ, Gareth Parry completed the qualifiers in first place. Gareth was joined by current champ, Andy Earl, as well as Mark Croxall and Tom Sugden. The final 6 problems included an all out dyno, a roof hand crack and what can only be described as an upside down box with no real holds. As ever, the Brits were up against the French, with star Daniel Dulac showing the way on the dyno problem. Dulac continued with an awesome display of tenacity, power and technique to take first place. The loadest roar from the crowd came as Gareth Parry held a one-armed horizontal swing, to power on through and top out on problem 6. Overall, Parry claimed 3rd place, after Daniel Dulac and Austrian Kilian Fischhuber. Mark Croxall must be delighted with his excellent performance and well-deserved fourth place. Andy Earl looked tired, but managed 6th and Tom Sugden took 12th. The women's event was dominated by Sandrine Levet who cruised in at 1st place. The highest ranking British woman was Lucinda Hughes in 12th. The News Editor apologises for missing the women's final! - Results

I was there for the whole event marshelling and what i saw of the comp was awesome. The crowds reaction when Gaz completed the 6th problem said it all (only 3 did it). That hand jam on the 4th problem in the final looked evil

Was the dyno comp sidest again? Could you only jump from a double handed hold, to the catch a hold with your left hand? What about folk that catch better and further with thier right?
