Winners of British climbing team prize raffle

© BMC
At the recent Outdoors Show you may have been one of the people that was approached by a British Team member to purchase a raffle ticket. Proceeds from the raffle go towards funding for team trainings and travel to international comps. Team member, Gaz Parry would like to thank everyone who showed their support by buying tickets as it enabled the team to raise £520.

The lucky winners were.

1. Alan Jones of Bristol
Alan won a £100 voucher for Snow and Rock but very kindly donated this to a member of the junior team. This was won in a draw by Emma Twyford.

2.Ian Steel of Chichester
Ian won a £75 pound voucher from S&R

3.Rachel Manning
Rachel and her boyfriend will enjoy a coaching session and day out in the peak with Andy Earl

Due to funding cuts, the British team receives very little financial support. The recent fund raising supported 5 team members at the 2nd Round of the Bouldering Cup at Erlangen in Germany. We had climbers placed 5th, 9th and 13th.

Currently the team has no cash sponsors. If you are interested in getting involved either with support for the Bouldering Team, Difficulty Team, Junior Team or an individual on the team then please contact either Gaz Parry (gazclimber@hotmail.com) or Graeme Alderson (graeme@thebmc.co.uk)

My experience comes from a while back and may be out of date, but... Money is limited, and rightly spending is slightly skewed towards investing in the potential of the youngsters. In order to save money full funding was provided to those competitors who are likely to do very well (the criteria for this used to be finals qualification). Others who wanted to compete but didn't currently meet this level could do so, but had to find their own funding. A very sensible policy, imo. Arguing for more funding is none too easy. The BMC presides over a broad church, and many members don't want extra spending on comps.
