Dorset Climber Drowns in Mallorca While Deep Water Soloing

© Mike Robertson
The popular Dorset climber Damian Cook has drowned whilst deep water soloing at Porto Cristo in Mallorca on Wednesday 28th April.
Damian was one of the Cook brothers who was active in the vibrant Dorset climbing scene of the 1990s and has some good first ascents to his name including Frazzled at Wallsend. He was married with a young family.
We would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

I never met Damian, but I suspect that extract and the front cover photo of him in a perfect swan dive off the top of Connor Cove convey a great deal about the sort of guy he was. I remember being gobsmacked by the guide when it first appeared, and inspired to wend my timid way up a few of the easier classics. It is very sad to lose someone who was an inspiration to people he never even knew.

Awful news. I met Damian once on the ledge under the arch at Lulworth, such a lovely chap. So sad.
