Kendal Festival Update

The Kendal Mountain Film Festivals is just over a month off and we shall be running regular news updates until then. You can browse the programme online here.

There is a whole possé of Canadians at the Festival reflecting the 100th Anniversary of the Alpine Club of Canada. Chic Scott on The Eiger Sanction, Sid Marty on the backcountry and bears, Barry Blanchard on Canadian mountaineering plus John Dunn's amazing audio-visuals. Linked to this is the 150th anniversary of our own Alpine Club with Stephen Venables and George Band ('Summit' 150 years of British Mountaineering Adventure').

Two European alpine hotshots are appearing, Marko Prezelj (Style Matters) and Ueli Steck (Young Spider ), both masters of high-speed Alpine suffering .

Tim Emmett and friends will be there - Tim doing his thing, BASE jumping, DWS, climbing etc, the story of the first BASE jump off Naranjo de Bulnes with Leo Houlding, plus 'guest appearances'!

The history of mountain film - sounds dry but certainly won't be, showing films from the Abrahams on Kern Knotts Crack in the 1890's to Jack Osbourne on El Cap in 2005, from Mallory to Messner on Everest, from Alpamayo to Touching the Void and presented by some of the UK's best known adventure filmmakers - Leo Dickinson, Jim Curran, Ed Stobart and Graham Hoyland.

The BMC presence - the Winter Skills Lecture with Martin Moran and Twid, the BMC/MEF Lectures featuring Chris Watts, Grimer and more.

One not to miss is the world première of a new film by Leo Dickinson on the life, climbs, humour and philosophy of Don Whillans followed by discussion and insights from old friends Chris Bonington and Dennis Gray and the new generation represented by Andy Kirkpatrick.
