BMC Energised - Progress Made and More To Come.

Dave Turnbull, Chief Executive Officer of the BMC gave a 'state of the BMC' lunchtime presentation last weekend at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival attended by those in the outdoor trade, media and the wider climbing community.

It was a very upbeat and positive event with Turnbull describing the continued financial health of the BMC. Two new BMC products were launched, Susan Harvey from HARVEY maps introduced the new map of Snowdonia which is the second in the British Mountain Maps series for hill walkers and mountaineers. Second up was the new BMC/MCoS Alpine Essentials DVD , both products shall be reviewed at UKClimbing.com shortly. This comes hot on the tale of the BMC guidebook, Burbage, Millstone and Beyond being awarded this year's Mountain Exposition prize at the Banff Mountain Book Festival.

But there's much much more going on at the BMC. Here are a few highlights:

  • New Trade Associate Membership, upgraded and improved.
  • New publication: Climbing: A Parents Guide.
  • New Climbing Wall 'Safety Awareness' campaign.
  • Discounts at Blacks, Sea France and Tiso's for members.
  • New Focus on Hill Walking: including publications and lectures.
  • Price cuts on all BMC Insurance.
  • New BMC website and monthly newsletter planned.
  • Climbing Wall Supervisors Award to be set up.
  • Bolts Working Group establised.
  • New land acquisitions and management plans.

And if you don't already get the BMC Summit magazine. You should. Summit's quality and content is very impressive. You can join the BMC at their website .

Good to see you at Kendal Mick. The BMC is always keen to improve our work for climbers - if any UKC contributors have creative ideas about ways we would do this - please let us know - either via this thread or direct to the BMC office. Dave Turnbull

Was the "the new the new" an attempt at the accent as it was MCoS or just a typo then?
