Lisa Rands Bouldering at Rocklands, South AfricaVideo/article/beta

© Wills Young
Last year, and this, Lisa Rands, the top American boulderer, and her English husband, climbing photo-journalist Wills Young, visited Rocklands in the Cederberg mountains north of Cape Town, South Africa.

ARTICLE
Wills says, "Bouldering simply doesn't get any better." You may be able to see what he means in this beautifully illustrated article he published last year. It can be found here at www.lisarands.com

But of course, apart from actually being there, there is nothing better than moving pictures to whet the climbing appetite. Here Lisa, filmed by Chuck Fryberger, pulls down a highball V4 ("that was a bit spooky," she says......maybe as spooky as her ascent of Gaia E8!) and yes she does fluff her initial lines. Great video, very clear, wide-format and brilliant music. You can watch it here.

BETA
Well after all that, if you are like me, you will want to plan and organise a trip. Then buy the plane ticket!

Nice video. It did make me thing "Does she really need all that chalk to climb V4 in the desert?" though. Cheers, FT.

UK Early Autumn or Late Spring. If you go in midsummer there tends to be a bit more rain. Not all of this makes it over the Cedarberg though; a lot falls in the Namakwaland, which is when all the desrt flowers bloom. I've only sen photos, but it looks quite spectacular.
