Pocket-size Guidebooks

© UKC news
Rockfax guidebooks, based in Sheffield and run by Alan James, have just unveiled the next step in UK guidebook developments with the publication of their Pokketz climbing guidebooks.

These small guidebooks are A6 in size, half the size of a normal Rockfax guidebook, and are 7mm thin with 128 pages of route information. They weigh in at 130g a book, slighter heavier than a lightweight quickdraw or, ten times lighter than the Lancashire Brick, the world heavyweight champion of guidebooks that tips the scales at 1.3kg. They retail at £9.95.

The first two in the series cover classic routes on Peak gritstone and limestone, and are grade banded containing routes between Moderate and Hard Very Severe (green and orange routes). The first two titles are Peak SE and Peak NE.

Full details of these titles are available at www.rockfax.com

More titles are in preparation that will include Pokketz to sea cliff and multi-pitch routes across the UK including one to Pembroke being compiled by Mike Robertson, author of the recently published deep water soloing guidebook, Deep Water.

These two have mostly routes up to HVS although there are a few E1s and E2s in there as well. Others in the series will not necessarily follow this grade pattern. For example, the Pembroke guide. Alan
