Victory For Randy Roby at Arco

© Ian Dunn
Over the weekend of 7th and 8th June Randy Roby (age 11) of Rochdale won the category B in the Under 14 Cup at the prestigious Arco Rock Junior in Italy.

The Rock Junior is a world famous event and has been running for 7 years. This year there were 20 countries represented with over 600 young climbers participating in the weekends activities.

Randy is only Britain's second ever winner at Arco after Gaz Parry in the Rock Master Bouldering last year and as Gaz said 'if you are going to win one you don't get any bigger than Arco.'

Randy topped out on the route on Saturday (7a+) along with 12 other competitors but on Sunday he really showed his class by getting very close to the top of the 7b+ final route and 5 holds further than the two climbers who came second. Randy is really pleased with his win as he managed to beat a lot of the competitors that he had competed against in the Rock Color Competition at Imst last month. He is now looking forward to the BMC Youth Climbing series National Final in Ratho on 28th June.
