"Less Internet, Less Topos, Less Everything"Video

.......and perhaps the most provocative line coming out of Vern Clevenger was..."and sport climbing is"...........watch the video to see what he says.

The young filmmaker, 19 year old Dave Gill of Kendal (Master's Edge Video at UKC) is out in the USA for two months with his friend George Ullrich, also of Kendal. George is the young climber who earlier this year repeated several of Dave Birkett's routes in the English Lake District. Then recently, George, attempted the Bachar-Yerian without bolts, with Dave filming; the short premiered on UKClimbing.com and has been watched over 7,000 times (see this UKC News Report).

Dave is putting together a film, titled 'Call it What You Want' about George and his adventures climbing, and so it seems, something a little bit more!

The video below is a short taster from Dave Gill's film.

Call it what you want from Dave Gill on Vimeo.

Now. There are several people in this short, John Bachar talking about ethics, George Ullrich climbing and waxing lyrical by Bishop's Owens River, Ron Kauk warning us of the nuclear threat and the amazing Vern Clevenger, Yosemite/Tuoloumne/Sierra Nevada climbing pioneer and landscape photographer (www.vernclevenger.com) who has fairly strong opinions and a zest for life that would put most 20 year olds to shame. After telling it like it is, his advice is..."go climbing."

Margee Kelly, a US Forestry Service Ranger at the Needles, California, has this to say:

"You don't mess with somebody elses route. You don't add bolts. If you can't do it you need to go elsewhere........all climbers have egos"
