Grit E8 flashed

It was only a matter of time. Countdown to Disaster, John Dunne's horror show at Ilkley is graded E8 6b because of its high 6b crux, lack of any worthwhile protection and horrendous landing. Whilst the climbing is fairly positive, 18 year old Ryan Pasquil's flash of this route signifies the absolute confidence of a new breed of young climbers operating predominantly, but not exclusively on grit. Pre-rehearsed grit ascents of up to E7 and even E8 have become commonplace. For those who dare, a pure E8 grit on-sight may soon be a reality.
