Anna Stöhr, the current European bouldering champion, has repeated Dave Graham's The Riverbed, Font 8B, at Magic Wood, Switzerland.
The long granite boulder problem climbs a big roof leading to a difficult transition to gain an arête followed by easier terrain leading to the top.
Earlier this month, Anna also managed to repeat Pura vida, a classic Font 8A+ in the same area.
Twenty two year old Stöhr is a member of the Austrian climbing team and was the bouldering world cup winner back in 2008 and won the European bouldering championships just last week.
Here's a micro interview:
First of all, congratulations for winning the European Champs in such excellent style! Very impressive! Second of all, congrats for doing Riverbed! I don't know what is more impressive really ;)
Thanks!!! Both felt really great :) !!Was it difficult for you and did it take a long time?
Of course it was difficult. But it didn't take too much time. I went there 2 years ago in 2008 and tried it for a day. I thought its a great bloc. This year I came back to it and it worked out on the third day of trying!!I know you've always been bouldering a lot outside, but is this something you feel like focusing even more on?
I've always been climbing a lot outdoors. I try to combine it with the comps!Anna's ascent of The Riverbed is thought to be the second female ascent of a confirmed Font 8B boulder problem, the first being Angie Payne's ascent of The Automator, in the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, USA last month.
