Dawes slideshow this Sunday

"Calling all rabbits!" says Grimer, aka Niall Grimes (charming, we thought). But it's the invitation to the second of the "Ape Index" slideshows, it's on this Sunday at 7.30pm (post-climbing, obviously). "The second Ape Index slideshow features the one and only Johnny Dawes. One of the most gifted climbers ever attempts to share his insight into the secrets of climbing at the upper limits, and to explain how we can all learn from his experience in a go-anywhere presentation that promises to challenge in many ways." Anyone who has been to a Dawes presentation will know what this means; for novices, prepare to be surprised! Support will include Richard Lindsay's Dry Drooling and Try Tooling, a demonstration of the best of Canadian ice climbing, from the cold and hard to the cold wet and runny, and every cold in between. Video delight will be an excerpt from a new Scottish film, Cutting Loose, which portrays the dark and light sides of Dumbarton Rock near Glasgow. The event starts at 7.30pm, costs £4 (£3 concession) and happens at The Lescar Hotel, 303 Sharrowvale Road, Hunters Bar, Sheffield S11 (phone (0114) 268 8051). More details at the Ape Index site.
