Climbing Works International Festival
Then there is the CWIF which will take place on Saturday and Sunday 10 and 11 March. Now in its 6th year and more popular than ever having filled all the 340 places 2 weeks before the event even begins.
In all there will be over 30 teams entered vying for the £500 Team cash prize (while others are aiming for the prize for best fancy dressed team). In the individual male and female categories going for the £750 first prize we have the cream of British talent. For the men Ned Feehally, Dave Barrans and Micky Page will be going up against the likes of Chris Webb Parsons, Glairon Mondet Guillaume and Michele Caminati. In the female category there is Shauna Coxsey, fresh from her 3rd place in the American ABS finals, competing against the winner of that competition, Alex Puccio. Add into the mix Mina Leslie-Wujastyk, Leah Crane, Anne-Laure Chevrier & Melanie Sandoz and it looks like being an exciting competition.
To get into the Semi's the competitors will first have to get through the qualifiers on Saturday with 30 blocs from Font 5+ to 7c'ish. These will all be on brand new holds supplied by King Kong and Holdz as well as a few 'interesting' volumes created by the Climbing Works very own Percy 'the Bish' Bishton.
What else is going on?
Each year CWIF supports a charity with raffles, rattling of boxes and team entry all going towards the big fund. This year the beneficiaries will be Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Macmillian Cancer Support. Thanks to Scarpa and Berghaus there will be having a number of raffles over the weekend with one very large prize worth over £1250 for one lucky winner. This will be drawn on the Sunday evening after the final.
There is also a famous free BBQ on Sunday between the semi's and finals.
I really want to see this! Can I?
There will be inside viewing available on a first-come first-served basis for the semi's and final. There will also be a big screen from tdc-av.com for those who miss out on a prime position. The semi's and final will be webcast on the Sunday and you can watch it by going to www.thecwif.co.uk on Sunday at noon.
The CWIF 2012 is supported byBerghaus, Scarpa, UKClimbing.com, Holdz and King Kong Climbing. Without them The CWIF would not be as much fun. A massive thanks for these companies helping to push the UK competition climbing scene.
