Muriel Sarkany, 39, from belgium has repeated Alex Chabot's PuntX, 9a, at Gorges du Loup, north of Nice, France.

This was Muriel's hardest route yet and her first of the grade.
As a competition climber until 2009, she was very successful becoming World Champion once and World Cup Champion several times.
Lately she has been focusing on rock, repeating many hard routes up to 8c+, and now 9a. I guess this sort of equals the status of World Champion, doesn't it?

She seems rather pleased...

YES I DID IT!!!
I just did my first 9a, Punt-X !!!
I'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of work but so much pleasure when I clipped the anchor;-))))))

Most impressive,I think Daniel Woods failed on this over several weeks back in 2009.

Good for her. Is she the lass who was injured in the Middle East in some lowering-off-the-end-of-the-rope type accident, or was that someone else? My word, these forum changes are hideous. Still, I expect we'll get used to them. jcm

This is probably the hardest single pitch rock climb ever by a woman. Ondra said it was very hard for 9a. The only other candidate is the slab of Bimbaluna, climbed by Josune Beretiartzu, (also fairly recently repeated by Manolo) which is graded 9a/+. To my mind this is a slab and although graded harder than PuntX, for me the latter strikes me as a harder proposition. Amazing P.S. - this is only my opinion ;0)
