15 year-old GB Team member William Bosi climbed into 3rd position at the IFSC European Youth Championships held last weekend at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena. The competition saw more than 250 of Europe's best young competition climbers battling for a podium place at this one-off annual event.

William put in a fine performance in front of a home crowd in Edinburgh. Having qualified in 7th place after the semi-final, William upped his game in the final round to take home a Bronze medal in the Youth A age category. He told UKC:

"I really enjoyed competing at my home venue of EICA: Ratho. It was a great competition; I felt all the routes I climbed on were set brilliantly, and there was a really good atmosphere. I was psyched to have climbed well, in the qualifiers and semis, to reach the finals. In the final I climbed my hardest and enjoyed the route - it was an amazing feeling when I found out that I was 3rd!"

No stranger to hard sport climbs - with ascents up to 8c - William will be climbing on rock in the summer to complement his indoor training for upcoming events:

"My next competitions are the European Youth Cup in Mitterdorf at the start of August, and then the World Youth Climbing Championships in Arco. At the end of June I am looking forward to some outdoor climbing at Malham with other GB Team climbers. I would like to say thanks to EICA: Ratho for hosting the EYCH, and to Wild Country, Sportsaid Scotland, the BMC and MCofS for supporting my climbing."

GB Junior Team Manager Ian Dunn commented on William's performance and that of the team overall:

"I was over the Moon that William has bounced back to a podium place in the European Championship, this is a tremendous effort and really shows what a quality climber he is. The rest of the Junior Team continued to make progress and nearly all made up ground from their qualifying positions in the semi-finals. With 12 climbers making the semi-finals we certainly have the foundation of a good team and plenty of potential for great results in the future."
