5 Pillars - Tasmania - Katha Saurwein and Jorg VerhoevenVideo

© UKC News

Continuing with our theme of Tasmanian sea pillars this week, a new video has just been released of pro-climbers and newly-weds Katharina Saurwein and Jorg Verhoeven sampling five of Tasmania's classic pillars: Totem Pole, Moai, Pole Dancer, Pole Axed, and Albert's Tomb.

The pair spent their honeymoon travelling and climbing around Australia last year, and this video by Louder Than Eleven is the first of a 5-part series documenting their adventures.

Nice vid though I am surprised that last route was bolted - looked like loads of good cam placements along the way! Chris

They all looked like they were bolted into submission. Totem pole having at least a bottom bolted belay. Pity as it looks the ultimate adventurous climbing for those with the skills...

On the plus side the bolting in Tassie is done well (stainless glue-ins IIRC) - the routes also take quite a commitment to get to and weather is changeable (at best) - as pure adventure routes, yep they would be great trad, but at least this way we get some traffic. On the plus side... it is sunny (sometimes) http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=78418 And if you are thinking about visiting Tassie... do it. It is incredible, like NZ, but better ;-) Cheers LD
