8b+ onsight and 9a's for Laura Rogora

© federico frullani

Laura Rogora has had a busy few weeks in Spain. After climbing Pal Norte (8c+/9a) at Margalef at the end of 2019, the European Lead Champion has gone on to redpoint La Bongada (9a) (also at Margalef) and onsight an 8b+.

Rogora onsighted L-mens at Montsant on the conglomerate limestone found at the crag. An onsight of the 8b+ grade is at the top end of women's climbing, with the grade of 8c yet to be onsighted. Josune Bereziartu first onsighted the grade back in 2005 and only a handful of women have matched her achievement since.

La Bongada was Rogora's fifth 9a; her first was Grandi Gesti in Sperlonga, just south of her hometown of Rome. She climbed the route quickly on her sixth redpoint.

Would seem to be the case. Mad that the female onsight grade hasn't really jumped since 2005. Josune was so far ahead of the game!
