The peak of people's boredom certainly won't be flattening over the coming weeks, so we've compiled a list of some inspiring bouldering films to keep you sane during isolation. The Classics - Midnight Lightning

Ron Kauk tells viewers about the early bouldering escapades of Yosemite's free climbers, and how this culminated in the first ascent of the most famous boulder problem in the world: Midnight Lightning. Mammut's series 'The Classics' is well worth seeking out for those of you who exhaust this list.

Splinter: Life in Malcolm Smith's Attic

Life in the attic of Malcolm Smith: This 4 minute film is a magical slice of life the countries most infamous climbing board. It takes us back to Malcolm's roots and the board where he trained incessantly during his teenage years. Fired up on tabs and coffee he attempts to repeat the problem he used as he trained for the second ascent of Hubble. Filmed in atmospheric black and white with a jib arm and high contrast lighting, Splinter is a beautiful verite doc full of sweat and sinew.

The Real Thing

The Real Thing is the first feature length bouldering movie ever made. Britain's top rock climbers Jerry Moffatt and Ben Moon take you on a rollercoaster road trip from the classic gritstone crags of the UK's Peak District to the mecca of European and World climbing in Fontainebleau, France. Also starring climbing hero Sean Myles, the late and great Kurt Albert and French climbing legend Marc Le Menestrel. A must watch for all boulderers, with an unforgettable pumping soundtrack.

Dai Koyamada - The Story of Two Worlds

A stunning black and white documentary that's full of power and emotion. Dai Koyamada returns to The Story of Two Worlds (8C) after he realised that he started from the wrong holds on a previous ascent.

Mina Leslie Wujastyk climbs Careless Torque

In 2013, Mina made the first female ascent of Careless Torque, Ron Fawcett's stunning 1987 line. Watch the film that covers her massive falls as she attempts the line ground up.

The Circuit - Nalle Hukkataival climbs Franchard Cuisiniere's Black Circuit in a day

Nalle Hukkataival sets himself the challenge of climbing the circuit in one push, a stern challenge considering no one has ever completed all the climbs. The circuit features everything from technical slabs, to terrifying highballs and whilst the circuit doesn't feature any single climb that would be considered at the top of the difficulty scale, climbing them all in one push requires world-class ability.

Learning to Boulder with Ed Byrne and Niall Grimes

Ed Byrne is passionate about the outdoors, regularly writing a column for TGO and wanted to find out about bouldering. Niall was dispatched from wherever the BMC keep him locked up and proceeded to go toe-to-toe with Ed for the funniest comedian at Robin Hood's Stride.

Blocbuster

A short film following David Fitzgerald as he attempts to climb some of Europe's hardest boulders. Bügeleisen (8C) and Big Paw (8C).

The Nate Draughn Redemption Story

An honest and emotional account of a climber's journey through addiction. 'The Nate Draughn Redemption Story' chronicles one climber's journey through life's highs and lows. From an early start in climbing to losing control of everything at the hands of drugs, one thing has remained true the whole way through: a love for the sport. In a return to his old stomping grounds of Boone, North Carolina, Nate Draughn recounts his journey through the last two decades of climbing, drugs and redemption.

Practice of the Wild

Dave MacLeod was first inspired to visit Magic Wood in 2012 after watching footage of Tyler Landman doing the second ascent of Practice of the Wild. At Font 8c it is one the hardest boulder problems in the world and on Dave's first visit it proved to be just beyond him.
Following a determined and focused preparation Dave returned in 2016 to have another crack at 'Chris Sharma's hardest boulder problem.'

The Mapmaker

You can't take a photo of every boulder in Linville Gorge – but you can draw it. Or at least, Joey Henson can. Follow Joey and a community of rock climbers as they climb, document, and preserve the boulders around Boone, North Carolina.

Out of Obsession

A short film focusing on British boulderer Dan Turner which follows his commitment to bouldering and training. Dan pinpoints five problems which he thought represented some of the best climbing in the UK and filmmaker Rowan Spear-Bulmer follows him through the highs and lows of attempting each.

Tsūrisuto: A Japanese Rockumentary Film with Louis Parkinson

Indoor strongman Louis Parkinson heads to Japan. The film is titled Tsūrisuto, which means Tourist and Louis laps in the climbing scene from the walls in Tokyo, where he discovers that all Japanese climbers are very strong, to the mountains of Mitzugaki. Louis provides reflective and informative commentary throughout this engaging short.

HTTP.BLOC: Fontainebleau Bouldering

Shot between 1997 and 2000, HTTP.BLOC is a classic Fontainebleau bouldering film (with some shots of the Peak District) inspired by skateboard films.
