James Machaffie makes the 3rd ascent of Very Big and Very Small

© Jon Read
James Machaffie has pipped Adam Hocking at the post in the race between the two to make the third ascent of The Very Big and Very Small, Johnny Dawes' 8b+/8c slab climb on the magnificent Rainbow Slab in the Llanberis Slate quarries (left). Adam also nearly managed it, but his split fingers prevented a clean ascent.
In an interesting statistical quirk, no-one taller than 5'6" has managed the route yet. This just goes to provbe how difficult rock-overs are for tall people!
