The much eyed, but previously ignored highball arête below Dove Crag was climbed last week, by local lad, Phil Wake. The Guardian of Dove, Al Wilson, says it is probably "the best problem int Lakes". Climbonline.co.uk reports that the would-be first ascentionist was worried as "a raiding party from the south" were rumoured to be planning a mid-week visit. UKClimbing.com has since heard that the would-be raiders found crag passes mysteriously unavailable for Dove that day. Wake has named the problem Impailed (V7), though the 1 1/2 hour approach and strict climbing regulations at Dove, will no doubt ensure it sees few repeat ascents.
