Mitchell Repeats Nowt but a Fleein' Thing E8

© Steve Crowe
Several weeks ago Andy Mitchell of Broughton-in-Furness in the Lakes repeated Dave Birkett's Nowt but a Fleein' Thing E8 on a crag called Cam in Wasdale. The climbing is bold 8a sport. This steep buttress lies above Low Adam Crag about 1 hour from the road. Protection is mainly peg runners. Mitchell, headpointed the route and was helped by Birkett on some crucial beta which saved about a day. The grade is confirmed.

Steve Crowe's photo is very impressive, you get to see the whole route: http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=50253 Was talking to Dave Birkett today and he said if he finds time between rescuing sheep off crags and doing his stonework there may be other routes at this fine crag. Mick

Very appropriate Dave. Looking forward to Al's film.... SUMMER IN THE LAKES Photography by Alastair Lee. I've been making the most of some scorching conditions in the Lake District capturing some great mountain light with this new selection of summer prints from the high fells - for further info and image pop ups see MOUNTAIN PRINTS.. Some of these shots will feature in our forthcoming film about climbing in the Lake District where top local cragster Dave Birkett (as seen on one of his many spectacular routes top left) will play a starring role.
