Neil Dyer, more lunchbreak ascents on slate

© Gareth Aston
Remember last month when Mark Reeves reported that Neil Dyer reduced The Untouchables F8a on the Rainbow Walls to a 'mere' boulder problem?

Neil has been up to more lunchbreak antics in between working at V12 Outdoor in Llanberis.

Pete Griffiths of V12 Outdoor reports early November that "Neil Dyer valued V12 employee popped out in his lunch hour one day last week and soloed The Untouchables E7 7A in the LLanberis Slate Quarries."

Then later this month.........Pete reports:

"Neil Dyer fresh from his ascent of The Untouchables moved on to Bungles Arete Fr 8b this week. Monday saw him take a late tea break to hike up to the quarries for the third time. After waiting for a passing shower he duly despatched Bungles on the second attempt of the day, just as the sun was setting! "

What do you do on your lunchbreak?

Top work Neil!

I'm glad he didn't reduce Bungle's Arete to a 'mere boulder problem'. Oh to have a crag close enough to work to get out on your lunch break.

Apologies Agent Moog. Neil is not only nipping out and doing these things in his lunchbreak, but if you look at the news reports he is also soloing stuff that in the past has been only climbed with a rope. Apart from that this lad is on a roll and these news reports make his mum dead proud. Perhaps I'm the only one that find Neil activities inspirational.....but I very much doubt it. If we had more resources I would report even more stuff that reflect the vitality that is happening in UK climbing. There is a lot lot more that I could report about, that would piss off the 'what is news brigade'. Good to remember that....there's about 90,000 different individuals visit UKC each month.....and what isn't news for some is news for others. Point taken of course about the full days work.......give him any extra Fr + for stuff done after work. Mick

Good, cos like you say ascents of Bungles are quite rare i believe. Then again so are redpoints of 8bs at Yorkshire's popular crags. I've only ever seen one (Grooved Arete) and heard about only one other this year from all the people I met at Malham and Kilnsey this year and I went there a lot! But that's for another thread I guess. PS. I've just remebered there were ascents of harder routes by the 'stars' but you get my point which is 8b anywhere is still pretty note worthy if you have an interest in that sort of thing.

"What do you do on your lunchbreak?" I go foar a walk around the block. Given the current weather, this is the equivalent of swimming the Channel.
