14 year flashes Font 7C+

14 year old, Trevor Nagler has flashed La Vin Airge Font 7c+ (Isatis, Fontainbleau). He did it first attempt after seeing it done on a video useing a different method. A huge effot considering that he is only 5,9" and it's a dyno.

Trevor lives in Hornsey, North London and trains mainly at The Castle, but is also a frequent visitor to Westway, and Mile End. He also trains at the Arethusa and Buckmore Park in Kent. Trevor is the current champion of the London and South East Regional BRYCCs junior category (at age 13 in the 13-15 age group) and is also the junior male champion in the recently completed Southern Bouldering League. He competed in both the BICCs (9th) and BBCs (8th) this year, again mostly against competition one and two years older than himself. His high point was competing in the European Youth Cup at Birmingham NIA earlier this year.

I think I'm inclined to agree having read that piece of news. Dyno's come in two grades ones you can do and ones you can't. I can't dyno so I don't bother. And also he's 5'9" so that's just under average height. Fair play to him but to report this is a bit of laff. Far more impressive is the 14 year old who did the Mandala, mainly because its more than one move. And no I'm not jealous. What's he ever done at Stanage, (Ulesyes, White Wand, Marbellous) P.s. thats a joke the bit at the end.
Why criticise someone for putting news up? It's only a bit of news, take it or leave it. For the climber himself, or his peers, or people who have done/ tried the problem it's interesting enough. And flashing 7c+ is close enough to the cutting edge for a young lad to be worth reporting, regardless of style. One of the nicest things I saw on RT was on the Knock thread, where amongst the bitching and slagging that some climber was recieving for toproping the route first, Tom from UKC was the only one to congratulate him on his ascent. Well done Trevor - good effort.

I continually fail to see why mealy mouthed people have a go every time somthing like this gets reported. Its a couple of lines in an online news column, you don't even pay for it. Besides it IS a very good effort, font 7c+ is hard, the other bit about seeing it on video is probably neccessary clarification because there is always some pedant questioning when these things are reported. And another thing, 5' 9" is average hight;-)
Firstly, flashing 7c+ is reasonably newsworthy isn't it? Especially for a brit and a junior. When flashes of 8a for men can be considered world class, surely flashing font 7c+ at 14 should be newsworthy? (Even if you think it isn't see point above about being nice!). As the for the problem being a party trick: a party trick is something challenging and difficult which you have spent time mastering in order to look proficient and cool at parties. Hence, flashing someone elses "party trick" is not only cool and proficient, but makes the person who's party trick it was look a bit silly....(winky face, sly grin). p.s. Don't take the piss out of him for the 5'9" bit, he didn't write it.
