One of the most anticipated climbing events of this summer has been cancelled due to a severe weather forecast.
The Cheddar Gorge Crag AttaK which was due to take place this Sunday, 1st July, has been postponed and a new date, Sunday, 16th September has been agreed.
Crag AttaK is a major climbing festival and will raise money for charity and celebrate the successful first year of the new climbing regime.
Crag AttaK will feature
The record-breaking largest-ever first ascent of a new climb.
An open speed climb.
An 'unclimbable climb' challenge.
The weirdest and wackiest ascent ever (fancy dress and fancy behaviour!).
A fit volunteer is needed for a record-breaking continuous climb challenge (possibly 36 hours).
I think the event was raised to celebrate Cheddar climbing, to raise funds for the Childrens Hospice, raise awareness of climbing in the Gorge, for the benefit of the sponsors and the host (commercial entities) and for climbers to have fun participating. Every event these days has a charity aspect to it, a good thing, but I don't think people are blind to the other benefits, including commercial, that these events have. Mick
