Katy Whittaker has climbed Thumbelina on Ina's Rock ground-up above bouldering mats. It took her around four attempts.

Thumbelina was first climbed by Andi Turner back in 2007 and graded E7 6c. It is of that 'in-between' height, between boulder problem and route. Dropping off on to bouldering mats is okay, falling out of control from high on the route could result in injury.

Regardless of whether it was highballing or micro-routing, Katy's ascent is a fine one, and climbing these highballs is an exciting business.

Katy commented:

"It is an awesome route, nice and crimpy. One of my favourites now!"

What highball grade would it get?

Hi James, Tom Briggs has commented in the database that it would be highball V6. I haven't been there myself, but it looks like a mega crag and I'd love to go. Good effort Katy. Looks like Ina's is the place to be. Nice work opening the route Andi T too. I wonder if it's sandy rock? Cheers, Jack

Really good effort. The rock is quite compact and not very sandy at all. All the holds on this route are very positive and the crux is about V7/7a+ at a reasonable height. However the lock from the final hold to the flat top and the subsequent mantle is harrowing!

Yikes, I must be a right softie... that top section to the ledge doesn't look very 'in-between height' to me! The very thought of it is making my ankles ache. jk
