Walk of Life, the 21 minute film documenting James Pearson's ascent of the climb of the same name at Dyer's Lookout on the North Devon coast won the Best Film on Climbing at Banff Mountain Festival.

“This film is about a very British climbing ethic,” says jury member Daniel du Lac. “The photography and music unpretentiously maintain tension without being manipulative, making it an outstanding film about the climbing community.”

Walk of Life, directed and edited by Dave Brown and produced by Paul Diffley, won over some stiff competition including, Big Up's Progression, Al Lee's On Sight and Alone On The Wall by Sender Films.

Big congratulations to Dave and Paul who won $2,000, the best climbing film was sponsored by the Alpine Club of Canada. Dave and Paul, who used to partner as Hot Aches but now have their own film companies, also won at Banff last year; Committed 2: Grit Kids won Best Film On Climbing, If You're Not Falling, Best Short Mountain Film and Committed 2: Grit Kids, the Audio Post Production Award.

The Grand Prize this year was won by a film called Finding Farley directed by Leanne Allison and produced by Tracey Friesen. It is described thus,

"When filmmakers Karsten Heuer and Leanne Allison, along with their two-year-old son Zev and indomitable dog Willow, set out to retrace the literary footsteps of Farley Mowat, they meant it literally. Their 5000-kilometre trip — trekking, sailing, portaging, and paddling from the Prairies to the Maritimes — is captured in this film. The family's arrival at their final destination (Mowat's Nova Scotian summer home) is, as Heuer says, “an affirmation of what the land and animals had already told us.”
