F8a for Emma Twyford

Emma Twyford has climbed her first F8a with an ascent of the relatively new route Call of Nature at Raven Tor in the Peak District.

Twyford, an accomplished trad and competition climber, has previously climbed E7 with an ascent of Monopoly at Millstone, also in the Peak District.

Emma is one of the very best climbers operating in the current British scene. She has flashed both E7 and F8a, headpointed E9 and is the first British woman to redpoint F9a.

Interesting news article, gets me wondering: When was the first UK female F8a ascent made? How many UK women have climbed F8a and how many women worldwide?

I'm pretty certain it was reported as such at the time. If anyone didn't get the initials: Rachel Farmer on Raindogs. Rachel was sadly killed in an accident a few years later which is why newer climbers won't have heard of her.
