Boom Bip Repeat and MoreFri Night Vid

Lots of leaping around to report this week. There might be something in the air and I don't just mean Andi Turner...

As recorded on the UKC Top Ascents Page, Andi Turner has made what is thought to be the second ascent of the giant leap at Ramshaw Rocks - Boom Bip (E7 7a) is a big dyno first climbed by Tom Briggs.

Both Tom and Andi are fairly tall fellas and also not too bad at jumping. We think Boom Bip might be pretty hard.

Check it out in this excellent video:

And for a bit more jumping around, we have a potentially new problem up in 'The County'. Northumberland sandstone is home to a few crazy leaps, such as Lupino Lane (UKC Report) and now it has another.

'Larn Streng' might even be graded a tongue in cheek 'controversial Font 8C' and why not! :-)

It goes between Magic Leap and Thundering Apoplexy at Back Bowden - and is a harder version of the latter, but apparently a much better line.

Boza told us:

"It involves a third or even fourth generation dyno technique utilising not one but two kicks on the wall to then reach the break above."

Hmm, looks like a running jump to us!

Problem name: Larn Streng
Grade: Ungradable
Ascensionist: Jake Handyside (Boza Junior)

Just a comment about Larn Streng... From the angle of the photos it looks like it goes up the line of Magic Leap. There is a problem to the right called Bubbles and you can see the chalked left handhold of that quite clearly (It's also the right handhold of Magic Leap, but that's bouldering for you). I've seen Andy Moir almost do this, but he ended up using the bottom hold to get on the wall, then did the jump from the low foothold to the break with no run up, obviously. Anyway, I love mental problems like this. Nice one. Also, I'm impressed with the spotting in the photos. Did you not have enough bouldering mats?
