Gaz Parry reports on the October Round of the bouldering series Blocfest, held at Mile End Wall in London.

Blocfest kicked off with a bang on Saturday, 20th October 2012. The first venue of the series was Mile End and some 250 + climbers of all ages, came along to see what all the fuss was about.

The Blocfest DJ's rocked the house all day and night to create a great vibe. The team set some funky blocs and some crazy challenges with loads of giveaways from chalk bags to sports recovery drinks, free food, free sports massages and free coaching from Neil Gresham it all combined to give London and probably the UK one of the best bouldering festivals ever.

The entire centre was buzzing with climbers in red Five Finger Thing t-shirts and after hours of entertainment for all on the many styles of climbing from delicate slabs to burly overhangs and even an off-width it was time to find a good spectator seat for the showcase finals. The finals were a huge hit with the crowd - the top climbers of the day showed off some immense talent and determination to put on a show. The Blocfest team created a spectacular set of wild moves that kept everyone on the edge of their seats and the climbers flying through the air.

All of the finalists put in the effort of a lifetime but the star of the show had to be Audrey Seguy who battled hard to come 2nd with her eight month old baby watching from the crowd. Michaela Tracey and Liam Halsey both topped all the finals to take the big cash prize. But the real winners of the day were all those who turned up in their hundreds and got amongst it! We salute you...
