Patrick EdlingerFri Night Vid

© UKC News
This week's Friday night video collection is in memory of French climber Patrick Edlinger. Patrick passed away last Friday aged 52. He was a fantastic climber, a leading light in the sport and a huge inspiration to many in the 1980's.

The first video shows Patrick and the late German pioneer Wolfgang Gullich competing on the same route in Munich back in 1989. Following that is a brilliant interview from Planet Mountain that we linked to in our initial news item.

The next videos show Patrick climbing with and without ropes on the sport cliffs of France, particularly the huge Verdon gorge. Be warned there is a brief nude shot in the final video.

Missing video!

Varying reports on the cause of Patrick's death are circulating on the net. UKC are in the process of finalising an obituary and longer article, but are waiting for more information at this time before publication.

Sad, sad, sad. A real memento mori. Curious, watching Verdon Forever again - the young lady with the breasts plays much more of a cameo role than I had remembered. I don't suppose anyone can identify the routes and people, can they? I recognise PE and PB and that long traverse on the Imbut whose name I forget, and of course the barefoot solo is Debiloff, but that's about it. Is that Pichenibule the chap's falling off, for example? jcm

His self-interview is brilliant - a stunning exposition of why climbing can be so terribly important to some of us. And his deep regard for Patrick Berhault - 'like a brother I never had'. Though he seemed troubled. I hope his spirit is at peace now. Mick
