Jimmy Webb has made the first ascent of The Wheel of Wolvo, 8C, at Lincoln lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
To say this is Jimmy's first 8C is perhaps not entirely true. This spring he made a quick 3rd ascent of what was the legendary Sharma-project Off the wagon before Nalle Hukkataival made the first ascent, naming it... Off the wagon and giving it 8C. Jan Hojer then made the 2nd ascent just a day or two after Nalle. (incidentally(?) all three will be competing in La Sportiva Legends Only in a couple of months).
Anyway, both Jan and Jimmy thought the problem was more 8B+ than 8C, but that doesn't necessarily make it true, does it?
I asked Jimmy if he could tell me about The wheel of Wolvo
It's a brand new problem that we've been trying over the last few days. It starts with a very powerful yet techy 8B+ and leads into a very long and core dependent 8A/+. All in all I think it's around 25 moves long with a good jug in the middle to separate the 2.
A perfect line really and it's not done yet. There are two more exits that could be climbed after the initial 8B+. Either into a really hard and powerful 8A+ or into We can build you, 8B+!
For now the weather is not so great so working on these longer and more sustained projects is awesome and great training. Soon the good weather will arrive and we have many projects to go try!
Sounds rather promising that!
