In yet more Yosemite news, Kiwi climber Mayan Smith-Gobat and American Libby Sauter have set a new women's speed record for The Nose on El Capitan, climbing the route in an astonishing 5 hours and 39 minutes.

Mayan held the previous record which she set last year with Chantel Astorga - 7 hours 26 minutes. Sauter set a previous record in 2011, so the pair between them have high El Cap experience. The men's record stands at 2 hours and 23 minutes and was set by Hans Florine and Alex Honnold.

Mayan is of course one of the world's top female climbers and has climbed 8c sport routes and free climbed Salathe on El Capitan.
