During the last few years, Nalle Hukkataival has travelled the earth looking for and finding hard unclimbed lines. This has resulted in many spectacular and beautiful, often tall, first ascents in places like The Grampians, Rocklands, Peñoles, Magic Wood, Valle Bavona and of course closer to his home in Finland.
Now, it turns out his most demanding projects yet have been waiting for him near Helsinki all this time.
There is the famous Sisu-project, on which he has quite a bit to go before he has done all the single moves, though he now says he has been able to at least hold all the holds for a second or so...
And then there is the new project.
I had a little chat with him about it when I saw that he had almost been able to stick the first move:
Hey, looks rather difficult that project of your's... Are there many hard moves after the near impossible start?
YES!!! And at the very top a crazy low percentage coordination dyno which I did about a month ago and haven't been able to stick since!
Damn! Sounds incredibly hard and very cool! Fingers crossed for crisp conditions!
Yes it feels pretty epicly hard, but possible!!
This project I've tried for over a month now and trained specifically for it and I still haven't even stuck all the individual moves! And linking will be really hard because you can't establish properly on any of the holds. And then you climb into the crazy low-percetage crazy dyno at the top which I've managed to stick only once!!
Nalle is looking really strong right now, and if these crisp conditions last... who knows?
A couple of weeks ago he showed he is just as impressive on plastic by winning the Sisu Masters in Helsinki ahead of Andy Gullsten, Kilian Fischhuber and Dave Graham, and next month he will be competing in the La Sportiva Legends Only in Stockholm. With this kind of form Sharafutdinov, Megos, Webb, McColl and Hojer better watch out!
