Sheffield-based climber Dave Mason has recently had a very productive trip to Sweden where he climbed 20 boulder problems between 8A and 8B.

The highlight of Dave's trip was his ascent of The Hourglass, 8B, which he had tried last September at the Vastervik International Boulder Meet, and was the reason he booked his flights back to Sweden. Dave commented on The Hourglass:

"This trip I had a session to re-familiarise myself with it and then waited for a cold day. It took a while but when one came I managed to climb it second go after a good warm up. I had wanted to climb this boulder for so long that sitting atop felt great; a mixture of relief and happiness."

Dave also climbed a number of hard problems including flashes of 3 8A's; Kraft, Awake the Unkind and Perdita Durango. Dave commented on the rest of his trip:

"Other highlights included the second ascent of Hulken, 8a+, an incredible close compression problem on perfect water washed red granite, Soul Fly, 8a+, a power endurance test piece with a lot of beta to remember and Freedom of Speech, 8a+, a tall, overhanging wall with a first move that must have taken me 40-50 attempts!

Vastervik is a great venue to visit with lots of variety and all situated in beautiful Swedish woodland. Thanks to Stefan and Sanna Rasmussen for accommodating me and acting as tour guide for the trip."
