VauxComp #6 Report: Marmot Edition

© VauxWall

On 1st April VauxWall hosted our 6th #VauxComp. This event was our Marmot Edition with the biggest prize giveaway to date! The event also served as the unofficial 1st birthday of our centre. On the day of the competition we coincidently reached the fantastic milestone of registering our 10,000th customer. We are very excited to see the VauxWall community grow as we enter our second year of business.

The VauxComp day had a great vibe with regulars and new visitors always pushing that little bit harder on the new blocs.

Our VauxComps consist of two open bouldering competitions. The #FunComp, with varied blocs, from V0-V6 set throughout 2 of our 3 climbing areas is a great introduction to competition climbing. The FunComp saw record participation on the evening with over 50 climbers getting involved. The main event takes place on our Scarpa comp wall with 35 fresh blocs set by top guest setters from around the UK. With rumours circulating the indoor scene of ‘legendary collaborative sets’ we wanted in on some of the action! Bristol boys Ben West (GB Bouldering Team) & Cailean Harker (Bloc Climbing Head Route Setter) certainly delivered.

To make the event extra special we gave away 100 exclusive #VauxComp Marmot T-shirts on the evening. A great way to kick off the event!

Ben & Cailean were also treated to a range of new HRT volumes to mix up the Comp wall. The result was a dynamic and technical set with something to challenge everyone from beginners right through to the Wads.

Apart from a Marmot athlete or two, the usual major players were either enjoying some outdoor climbing in Font or competing in ITV’s Ninja Warrior, meaning the competition was wide open. The winners across four categories all went away with a fantastic Long Hauler duffle bag or rucksacks from the fantastic Marmot range.

Our guest DJ for the event was Ben West and with mountains of free Pizza and Beer on sale after the competition the VauxComp always delivers an exciting night for all abilities.

#VauxComp will return in June. #VauxComp 7 will be on Wednesday 3rd June. Setting will be by Guest setters Matt Varela-Christie & Rob Lloyd.

VauxWall would like to thank our partners Marmot & Scarpa for their generous support as well as our customers who have brought VauxWall to life over the last year.
