Awesome Walls Leading League Grand Final 2014/15

Liverpool, Stockport and Sheffield hosted 3 rounds of the Leading League each, with 10 routes to climb with grades ranging from 5-8a. Each individual round was a competition in its own right, with prizes supplied by DMM and 5:10.

Head Routesetter James Garden packed a lot into the Grand Final at Awesome Walls Sheffield, with routes of treacherous technique and some requiring bulging biceps, the competitors looked on aghast!

25 competitors made it thorough to the final with categories including: junior, adult and veterans. Qualifying consisted of three routes, with the top 4 from each category progressing into the final.

The final routes for each category proved to be exquisite test pieces.

Steve the pro scooped the Veterans male title, with a tantalizing effort on a hard looking pink number.

The Junior Females were in for a surprise with their feisty sloperific and crimpy purple route on the DMM Shield wall. Pippa proved to have nerves of steel as she claimed the top of this route.

The main competition was in the Junior Male category, with 10 entrants and the top 4 making it through. Their route was a difficult to read crimpy white located on the DMM shield wall. Joe climbed the route with effortless ease and style to win!

The Senior Women were located on the speed wall, with slopers and small crimps, Ellissa Bryant sneaking her way to victory.

The Senior Men’s final saw a nice red number up the steep Shaff wall. A tricky move from an undulating volume proved to be the sticking point for most and victory came after a super final, for Mischa.

So what a fantastic end to a great competition! I would like to thank the following: DMM for providing excellent prizes for the rounds and the final, 5:10 for their support with prizes for the rounds and the final and Rafiki, who are a Czech based company, part of the Outdoor Concept group.

They bring a new exciting range of climbing specific clothing to the UK, as well as accessories such as chalk bags etc.

Finally, a BIG thanks to all the competitors who entered, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care!
