Triple ascent of Asagimadara, ~8C, by Jongwon, Ondra and Amma

What happens if you take three of the very best competition climbers in the world and pitch them against a highball 8C boulder?

Well, they deliver! Triple ascent of Tokio Muroi's Asagimadara, ~8C, at Mt Mizugake, Japan.

Ok, Adam Ondra is not only the best allround competition climber, but has also been known to play around sometimes outside, and the same goes for Sachi Amma, but I guess it would be fair to call Chon Jongwon a competition specialist? At least until now.

Asagimadara, at Mt Mizugaki was put up by the legendary Tokio Muroi, who, true to his game, didn't use any crashpad. He suggested 6-Dan, the Japanese equivalent of ~8C+ or so. It has since come down to ~8C. I wonder what E-grade it would get...

Climbing without crashpads was, as it turned out, quite risky, as Toru Nakajima, prior to his succesful 2nd ascent, fell from near the top. Luckily, Toru did use crashpads.

The problem had also been repeated by Toshi Takeuchi before the historical triple ascent by Chon, Adam and Sachi. And yes, in case you were wondering, they used crashpads.

Is there a reason why they're all in Japan at the same time?

In an earlier Instagram post, Sachi Amma says "Time to go outside🌞 Okutama Rock Trip just started with amazing crew @stonerideryuji @chonjongwon96 @sol.sa.5 @h_keeem @gianelloni1 @hiroshikanno @bk160400 #adamondra @shaunngoh @denniscrm @nadyavirgita Yuji and me have done second and third assent of Jinjya 8b. Let's see what is going to happen next days😁 #basecamprocktrip2016 #okutama" Now you might be wondering, what's Okutama Rock Trip then? I have no idea.

Ondra is in Japan for the North Face Cup 2016 (didn't make podium). The rest also participated I guess. After the North Face Cup Yuji Hirayama takes the athletes on a short 'Rock Trip' to do some climbing in Japan while they are there. Okutama is a town near Tokyo with some rock faces. Yuji has recently rebolted some routes there, so Okutama was included in the rock trip this year. Usually pretty good videos come out on youtube from the North Face japan about the rock trip. Hope we will see one appear online soon about 2016!
