Legendary US climber Fred Beckey passed away this week at the age of 94 (UKC News). Fred's life story is currently making its way around mountain film festivals worldwide in the form of a feature-length documentary about his rebellious dirtbag lifestyle. A prolific mountaineer in the 1950s and 60s with first ascents to his name all around the world, Fred continued to pursue his passion for climbing to the very end, with a trip to the Himalaya in the pipeline for next year.
The film was part crowdfunded and features over a decade of footage documenting Fred's life, in which he eschewed fame, sponsorship and family life. We've posted this extended trailer previously, but to honour Fred we just had to share it as our Friday Night Video this week...
