The third round of the 2018 IFSC Boulder World Cup series took place in Chongqing, China this weekend. High temperatures made for challenging conditions on the outdoor wall, but the finals were nonetheless exciting. With Shauna Coxsey and Janja Garnbret absent from the round, the women's competition was left relatively open.
Team GB's Nathan Phillips qualified in 1st place for the semi-final round and finished in =16th place.
IFSC Climbing Worldcup (B,S) - Chongqing (CHN) 2018
The Japanese team were once again the dominant force in Chongqing. Veteran IFSC competitor Akiyo Noguchi required just five attempts to climb all four problems in the final to secure a win with astonishing ease. Her teammate Miho Nonaka topped three problems to take second place ahead of Serbia's Stasa Gejo. Miho has now joined Janja Garnbret (SLO) at the top of the overall 2018 rankings. In the men's event, Kokoro Fujii (JPN) topped three boulders to push Sean McColl (CAN) into 2nd place. Aleksei Rubtsov (RUS) took third place and currently sits 3rd in the overall boulder rankings after three events, whilst Jernej Kruder and Tomoa Narasaki are tied for 1st place.
The next round is in Tai'an, China, 12th-13th May.
