Sad News from the Costa Blanca

© UKC News

We have heard some very sad news - Chris Moor, known by many on UKC as 'Chris the Tall', has been killed in a snorkeling accident on the Costa Blanca.

Chris is well known to everyone who goes to the BMC Peak Area meetings having been an active attender for many years. He had a spell on BMC Council and has always been involved with Peak Area politics.

Chris was an extremely popular and erudite participant on the UKC forums where he has been a regular contributor since registering over 15 years ago. He took part in many of the great long debates we have had and was very keen on the sporting threads, particularly the ones around road cycling and the Tour de France. He also made contributions to UKC like this long-standing article on the Dolomites.

From a personal point of view I always looked forward to our shared car journeys to the Peak Area meetings where we would catch up on each other's exploits. Last time we were out he admitted to being more drawn towards cycling like many of his age but I was always amazed at the varied line-up of activities he involved himself in on a weekly basis. It is typical of him that he was out snorkeling on what for others would have been a rest day.

Chris will be very sadly missed. Our condolences go to his partner Liz and his family and friends.

Awful news.

I met and climbed with Chris at Nottingham University in the mid 80's. Such a nice bloke. He put a sturdy stint in on National Council and was a regular at Peak Area meets. He loved his soloing on Stanage.

Condolences to friends and family.
