Centre Manager Opportunity

The Tide Climbing Centre

The Tide is a new large climbing centre based in the heart of Cornwall. Our team have visited, built, and worked in climbing facilities and centres all over the world, we have distilled our favourite parts from each to create The Tide.

The Centre Manager Role

We are looking for a passionate person to take on this proactive role. You will be expected to have input into businesses long term strategy, deliver a fantastic operation where customers and staff are happy and meet key KPI's month on month. Ultimately the centre manager will be managing all aspects of the business, the centre's daily operations, supporting your team, training, coaching, financials, and procurement. You will need to have a flair that rubs off on our team and be willing to get stuck in… if you are looking to sit behind a desk – this role might not be before you!

Management level Responsibilities: 

The centre manager will be responsible for the businesses following strategic plans and implementing actions to hit long term business goals.

You will be expected to ensure excellent customer service delivery throughout the centre daily. Respond to customer feedback, ensuring the business and the team makes changes to reflect customer needs. This includes training, monitoring and reviewing staff and procedures in regard to customer service. 

You will be responsible for the centre and the team's health and safety on a day to day basis. You will be expected to manage, update and continually review our procedures, to keep these relevant and comply with industry H&S standards. You will be responsible for reviewing, updating risk assessments and H&S policies at least every six months. You will be required to complete accident reports, analyse results and implement changes.

The centre manager must ensure staff are appropriately trained and motivated to carry out their role to the best of their abilities. Conducting all required recruitment, training and integration of new team members following centre values. The centre manager will review all staff appraisals, record and monitor their progress, developing staff performance standards.

Sales

  • Carry out an annual price review and implement new prices across the centre. 
  • Ensure products are advertised to the highest possible standards in collaboration with the marketing administrator.  
  • Contribute to the website & social media content through blogs/posts in line with our brand identity.

Business development

  • Participate in strategic and business planning processes with the Board of Directors and Management Team. 
  • Formulate business strategy for the development of the centre functions and the team.
  • Work with the management team on creating and implementing sustainability targets and helping the company to achieve its sustainability goals. 

Essential skills 

  • Experience of staff development
  • Proactive problem-solving attitude
  • Competent computer skills 
  • Group coaching experience with all age groups
  • Friendly approachable manner 
  • Personal climbing experience 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with front-end Point of Sales systems (RGP ideally)
  • A dynamic individual with a 'can do' positive attitude and approach 
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours including weekends
  • Experience with time management and workload management
  • Desire to improve and advance, personally and within the company.
  • Route setting

Essential Qualifications 

  • Climbing Wall Development Instructor
  • Foundation Coach
  • A DBS enhanced certificate
  • First Aid qualification

Desired Qualifications 

  • Development coach
  • PPE inspection training
  • Marketing experience 
  • Event management experience
  • Catering/hospitality experience  

Hours, pay and perks 

  • 40 hours per week 
  • Starting salary negotiable from £24,000 - £28,000
  • Shifts will include daytime, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays and good surf days. 
  • Continuous support towards training and courses 
  • Up to 28 days holiday per year 
  • Free / unlimited climbing, hot drinks and fitness classes.

We would like you to include details about how you have helped improve any procedure at your place of work and what was the outcome. 

All applications will be reviewed as they are received and if you are eligible for the role we will request you complete a written strategy task. You will then be invited for a video call at your convenience.

If you are shortlisted you will be invited to a formal face to face interview on Thursday 23rd September. This will be structured with a 45 minute interview followed by a practical climbing session that you will be expected to run for 3 adults.
