Climbing Wall Supervisor and Instructor Calshot Jobs

Salary Range: £18,877 - £19,208 per annum (Plus 50% enhancement of pay for Sundays and 100% enhancement for any bank holidays worked)
Work Location: Calshot Activities Centre, Southampton
Hours per Week: 37 
Contract Type: Permanent (part-time considered)

The Role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic climber who holds their CWI or RCI award to join the climbing wall team at Calshot Activities Centre. 

For over 60 years, Calshot has operated as an activities centre, offering water and land-based activities. Our historic hangars accommodate our ski slope, velodrome, and our climbing walls. Our climbing walls are huge with over 1200 square meters with our biggest walls at 15 meters.

The climbing wall is open daily to climbers and along with our established climbing clubs, we pride ourselves on providing learning and development for all levels of climber from our vising school groups, casual climber to instructor training and awards.

We have positions available for afternoon, evening, and weekend working. Part time will be considered however full time is preferred.

As a wall team member, you will be responsible for: 

  • Wall supervision and floor walking, checking that customers are using safe practices and conducting assessments
  • Climbing instruction of our climbing clubs and courses
  • Essential equipment inspections 
  • Route setting of our boulder cave and roped walls
  • Assisting with wall development projects

Key skills include: 

  • Broad knowledge of climbing equipment & belay devices 
  • Front of house and customer service
  • Knowledge of PPE inspection and recording 
  • Good instructional and coaching skills 
  • Ability to organise workload and work unsupervised
