Our climbing gym in Singapore has a mission to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy bouldering. We are looking for a full time Head Routesetter to execute our vision of bouldering as a top quality product and experience in all of our climbing gyms. This individual must demonstrate a desire to understand climbing movements, body awareness and techniques that make for good climbers, not strong climbers. As a leader, the individual needs to be innovative and forward thinking, able to understand the commercial needs of the business, and know how to communicate professionally with other team members.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage route setting staff
  • Manage, motivate and inspire a team of full time route setters
  • Hire, train and supervise new route setters when necessary
  • Provide professional development and continued support for experienced setters
  • Supervise route setting, stripping and hold washing activities
  • Continually evaluate setters performance and provide feedback and coaching as necessary
  • Manage route setting program
  • Organize the route setting schedule to ensure timely turnover of boulder problems with minimal impact to customers
  • Ensure distribution of problems meets the needs of the brand's target client profiles
  • Ensure that existing routes are maintained (e.g. replace route tags, fix loose holds, replace damaged holds)
  • Organize and maintain cleanliness of route setting storage areas
  • Ensure the inspection of walls, holds, bolts, tools and equipment, for damage on a regular basis
  • Act as Chief Route Setter for company organised competitions
  • Conduct route setting clinics and assist with special events as needed

Additional responsibilities

  • Constantly engage with the customer community to understand their needs and respond to feedback
  • Meet with the coaching team to ensure the setting program supports all lessons and programs for customers
  • Ensure compliance with risk management plan to ensure safety of setters, gym staff and customers
  • Assist Management in updating and maintaining route setting policy and procedure documentation
  • Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by Management
  • Work together with marketing team to create content
  • Experience & Qualifications
  • Climbing & Route Setting Experience
  • Extensive indoor and outdoor climbing experience including bouldering and sport climbing
  • Minimum 3+ years commercial route setting experience,
  • Experience as a head route setter (preferred)
  • Any Route Setting Certification (preferred)
  • Ability to forerun V7 (preferred)
  • Management & Communication
  • 2+ years applicable management experience (preferred)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback
  • Excellent listening skills and willingness to accept and respond to feedback
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse clientele

Work Expectations

40-44 hours per week
4-5 days a week including Sat or Sun where needed
Set 10-12 boulder problems per week
Must be dependable and punctual
Must display professionalism and integrity
Availability to work special events, clinics and competitions

  • Basic salary commensurate with experience, starting from 4,000 GBP per month
