Premier Post: Route Setter 5 x Casual Contract, Negotiable Salary

Reporting to: Head of Climbing

Hours Per week: Casual contract

Hourly pay: Negotiable

Purpose of the role:

We are looking for experienced setters to join to the Westway route setting team.

Applicants must have prior experience of route setting in a commercial environment and have a good knowledge of working at height health and safety considerations.

Applicants must be highly motivated, creative individuals with experience of managing their own work and time. Route setting at the Westway is carried out in non-peak hours and must be completed on time and around other setters. Applicants must have experience of completing work to deadlines and working as part of a team.

The successful candidate must have the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Route setting experience on a commercial level.
  • Relevant personal climbing experience with up to date knowledge of current climbing best practice.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety within a climbing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Punctual with effective organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to set high quality routes.
  • Must be able to set routes from VO/F3 to V9/8A.
  • Ability to manage own time and work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to stay calm & focused during challenging work situations.
  • Able to work with own initiative with a proactive & flexible attitude.
  • Able to work as part of a team.

Climbing Coach

 
Premier Post: Route Setter 6 x 16 hours per weekend- £8.80 per hour for the first 60 hours and then £9.65 per hour thereafter in each month. 

3 x Sessional hours- £8.80 per hour for the first 60 hours and then £9.65 per hour thereafter in each month + 12.7% holiday pay 

Full coach training provided. Initial basic coach training (CWA equivalent training of approximately 60 hours) is unpaid. All advanced coach training after basic training is paid at above rates.

Additional Sessional Hours available during the week

The Westway Coaching Programme offers an impressive range of products from taster sessions to outdoor climbing trips. The Westway boasts the largest junior programme run by any wall in the country. We are a primary provider of the NICAS programme and take juniors on a pathway from starting out to national competitions.

Overall purpose of the role:

We are looking for motivated, experienced climbers with a passion for teaching others to join our team. Applicants must have a passion for climbing and have had some experience in training other people. Our coaches must have the ability to inspire and motivate while ensuring a safe, fun environment for people to learn. Successful candidates must have a good understanding of the health and safety considerations of a large climbing centre and show they have the necessary experience to work in this environment.

The successful candidate must have the following knowledge, skills and experience:
 
  • Relevant personal climbing experience with up to date knowledge of current climbing best practice and knowledge of Health & Safety within a climbing environment
  • Experience of coaching or teaching others and able to deliver excellent customer service
  • Punctual with effective organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during challenging work situation
  • Enthusiastic about introducing climbing to others with a proactive and flexible attitude
  • Able to work as part of a team with excellent communications skills

Climbing Diary Coordinator 

Premier Post: Route Setter Hours Per week:             15 Hours per week     
Hourly pay:               £10.20 per hour
Location:                    W10

Purpose of the role:

Our extensive programme has to be carefully scheduled to ensure we have adequate coaches available to meet the demand.  We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced climber to manage the climbing instructor diary system.  Applicants must be able to administer IT booking systems and have a good grasp of basic MS platforms.  The successful candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of successful team working and completing tasks to immovable deadlines. 

The successful candidate must have the following knowledge, skills and experience:

•                Current knowledge of climbing best practice including knowledge of Health & Safety within a climbing environment
•                Excellent communication skills, problem solving & negotiation skills
•                Punctual, with effective organisation & excellent planning, coordination and time
management skills
•                Ability to deliver high standards of customer service and remain focused during challenging work situations
•                Able to work on own initiative with a proactive & flexible attitude
•                Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with ability to work as part of a team
